Frequently Asked Questions!
Whether you are an anxious parent or looking to skydive yourself, we have answers to the most asked questions to put your mind at ease!
Is there a weight limit?
There is. Skydiving is a very physical activity calling for the participants to be in good health with no known health issues including heart disease, epilepsy or obesity. Most of our locations in California can support a participant weight up to 240 lbs., however, if you are over 200 lbs. please call us to find out if you qualify to jump at the most convenient location to you.
How old do you have to be?
In terms of Federal requirements there is no official age limit to skydive. However, most of Skydiving Los Angeles California’s affiliates all throughout the country call for a participant to be at least 18 years old. This is the limit in California. As far as the maximum age is concerned, there is none! Many of the regular clients who come often to Skydiving Los Angeles California are 60+ years young!
What do I need to wear?
We recommend wearing clothes that are well fitting (you don’t want anything falling off during your flight) as well as clothes that cover the spots the harness will go around your body. Tennis shoes are required as they tie on and have less of a chance to slip off when you are thousands of feet above the ground. It is also colder at the altitude you will be flying at. We know that beautiful sunny LA rarely gets cold, but as you can imagine, there is an abundance of wind created during your freefall which can make it seem chilly.
What if I wear glasses or contacts?
Wear them! We have goggles that can accommodate glasses or contacts. You will want to see the gorgeous views of LA county when you are up there and we provide what you need to do so!
Can I bring my own camera?
You can! Take as many photos as you would like of your arrival, getting ready, before boarding the plane, even landing photos! For safety, we do ask that you leave the camera on the ground during your flight. But there are so many photo opportunities before your flight that you can take advantage of. If you would like photos of your flight and freefall we do have professional videographers who can take them!
Can you take video of me and someone else skydiving?
We can take a video of one person at a time. If we have multiple people wanting skydiving photos and video on the same lift, we will send multiple videographers with them!
Can someone ride with me?
Unfortunately, no. For safety as well as space constraints we can only let those skydiving on the aircraft.
Is there somewhere my friends and family can watch me?
Yes! We have a special viewing area for your friends and family to watch you! Make sure they are looking up, until the parachute is pulled you will look like a tiny dot in the sky and then it will be easier to make you out from the ground!
What is the USPA?
USPA stands for United States Parachute Association. This is the entity that creates and enforces all our regulations at our drop zones, schools and events. They create and set the safety standards for all our equipment, requirements for certifications, licenses and ratings as well.
Can me and my skydiving group go on the airplane together?
Yes! We will do our best to get all of you on the same flight, however, if your party is larger than our max capacity for the aircraft you may be split up in two flights.
Can I jump by myself for the first time?
Not the first time. As we have said before, the first time you jump from an airplane will always be a tandem dive. However, we do offer an AFF program that you may register for and after the first dive and some additional instruction you may then be able to jump on your own!
How high will we go?
The height at which we jump ranges depending upon the altitude at the jump site, cloud hang, wind speed and weather. So, the range can be between 10,000-14,000 feet in the air!
How fast will we fall?
Speed varies per person; however, you may reach speeds between 100-150 miles per hour. Typically, you can reach a top speed of 120 mph, but there have been cases where people have gone faster.
How long are we in freefall?
Freefall lasts around 60 seconds. But, when you’re thousands of feet in the air, falling towards the Earth it will seem like much longer than that.
How long is the parachute ride?
The length of time after the parachute is release also depends on the wind and weather. Your instructor will give you an aerial tour of the area where you will be able to see the gorgeous City of Angels skyline and maybe the crystal Pacific waters in the distance. You will be able to see much of the stunning California countryside as well as the surrounding mountain ranges (Santa Monica or San Gabriel) during your canopy ride. The time you will have to see some of these amazing views ranges from 8-10 minutes.
How long will the whole process take?
We ask that you set aside a few hours for the entire experience. This includes time to be trained and prepared, awaiting your lift, landing and awaiting the preparation of your skydiving video!
What happens if the parachute doesn’t open?
This is an extremely rare situation. As a matter of fact, you have a higher chance of being injured on your way to the drop zone than you do having a parachute malfunction. However, should this occur, every one of our parachutes is packed with an Automatic Activation Device to release a backup parachute should the main canopy not deploy or open. No worries, you are always safe at Skydiving Los Angeles California.
What happens when there is bad weather?
In most cases the weather will pass and we will be able to jump once it has, causing only a slight delay. However, should there be inclement weather and we are unable to get our plane off the ground for a considerable amount of time, you will can reschedule your jump for a time that is convenient for you within two years of the purchase date.
Will I get sick?
More than likely not. While we cannot say it has never happened, we can tell you that it is fairly rare. Unlike roller coasters, skydiving does not give you the feeling of a turning stomach. You will be level with the ground in freefall and there is no sensation of “falling”. If anything, you may feel a bit anxious before the ride that may affect how your stomach feels, but once you are in the air this feeling will quickly dissipate.
How much does it cost?
While our prices are the best in the business we can tell you that the cost of the skydive depends predominantly on the type of dive you will be taking. Tandem skydiving is our most economical option, however, if you are wanting to become a professional diver the cost of skydiving school is much higher. The time of year is also a factor, if you are looking to purchase a gift certificate or buying a holiday gift we often run sales prices during these times. For specific prices or to ask about discounts please give us a call!
Can we get married during the dive?
You can! Give us a call and we will plan for your big day!
